Irritable Bowel Disease (IBD)

Inflammatory Bowel Disease  8/15/2008
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is different than...irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).  There are 2 different forms of IBD... Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. Both cause inflammation in the bowel. But they often affect different parts of the bowel...Crohn's disease can affect any part of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, from mouth to anus, but it's most common in the small intestine. Crohn's disease also causes inflammation through the entire thickness of the intestinal wall. Ulcerative colitis usually involves only the colon and the inflammation only occurs on the inner surface layers of the intestine."

) provided protection against colitis in this murine model, which further supports a possible therapeutic application of GSH-repleting agents in IBD (inflammatory bowel disease) patients.
