Polio-virus is an enterovirus, a virus that inhabits the gastrointestinal tract but is capable of traveling to the nervous system.
From the CDC’s blinkered perspective, only poliovirus is capable of causing the paralytic condition labeled 'polio.'
However, early polio researchers (publishing not long after the introduction of the 1st polio vaccine) painted a different picture.
In a study describing a 1958 polio outbreak in Michigan (published in the Journal of the American Medical Association or JAMA), the authors reported that “in a large number of paralytic as well as nonparalytic patients poliovirus was not the cause” [emphasis added]. JAMA researchers also noted their laboratory analyses had not only identified 2 different 'immunological types of the poliovirus' but also other types of enteroviruses & 'there were no obvious clinical differences' among them [emphasis added].
Dr. Suzanne Humphries, who cites the JAMA study, has observed that poliovirus existed as a 'common' & 'trivial' bowel inhabitant for millennia, not causing paralysis until the 20th century. Humphries suggests that dietary & environmental factors (including exposure to toxins such as arsenic, lead & DDT) as well as the advent of 'invasive medical procedures' (such as 'intramuscular injections of many types, including…vaccines') weakened 20th-century individuals’ innate immunity & were capable of fostering the paralysis “uniformly attributed to poliovirus infections.”

Letters span years 1925-1937 & contain 24 Typed Letters Signed (all but 1 are single page on 8.5" x 11", Tuskegee letterhead) & 73 Autograph Letters Signed (most are 2 pages) & cover all topics including religion, racial segregation, his work in agriculture, the Great Depression, travel & health issues. All letters are signed "G.W. Carver"…Of course, his scientific work was a major topic of discussion; in particular his research in the use of (warmed raw organic) peanut oil massages for the treatment of infantile paralysis (polio).
In undated letter he (Carver) writes (typed):  "The special peanut oil to which you refer is not manufactured commercially & will not be until I finish my investigations and get the range of its entire pharmaceutical possibilities…I have only used it on 2 cases of infantile paralysis (polio), each of which shows decided improvement. 1 of the cases has left & I will not see him any more. 3, 15 now [added in holograph], others have just come to me, so that I can go on with my investigations & give you truth & directions of value. 
It is practically impossible for me to make enough oil for my own investigation."
The letter continues in holograph:
"My dear Mrs. Liston, these oils I am working on now are for infantile paralysis.
Even if it were available in its present state I would not recommend it for ladies as it grows hair as well as being a strong fat producer.  Use the oil on the slip (fall?), if an oil at all is needed they will do the work. 
I cured a bad case on myself with them several years ago.
Mine was in the knee, swelled terribly & the pain was almost unbearable, no sleep at night.
I put the knee in a continuous heating pack at night & massaged night & morning with these oils it cured me.  My infantile paralysis work is coming on fine. 
 My physician says my 'strength' is not sufficient to undertake such a long trip.
Don't know if I will ever get strong enough to make it."
Carver's work on the treatment of infant paralysis would receive a lot of attention & gave rise to copycat companies:
"[Oct. 1. 1934]...One of my patients who lives in Washington D.C. secured a bottle of 'Velvet Vitalized Peanut Oil' for me.  I was amazed when I saw the product & advertising matter on the bottle and inner carton.
I do not see how he could hope to sell a dozen bottles per month.
I think the 'Pure Food & Drug Law' has censored it.
They wrote the Add. Matter that I am allowed to send out on Penol. 
I think they have done the same with Dr. Frischkorn."
There are also 2 letters on stationery of companies that produce peanut based products that have included Carver's name in the mast.
Carver makes frequent references to the growing number of letters received & patients traveling long distances for treatment.
Eventually it was discovered (postulated/perpoted/insinuated) that the effectiveness of Carver's treatments on infantile paralysis had no thing to do with the peanut oil, but with the massages themselves.
Carver had been a trainer for the Iowa State football team & was skilled masseuse.
Carver's treatments & use of peanut oil begin to make sense when examined against the context of his religious beliefs.
Sophie & Carver shared a strong religious faith, & the role of God in their lives was a frequent topic.

"Hugo von Ziemssen found that these points (entrance of the nerves into the muscles) vary slightly between people & that they are the junctions between nerves & muscles. When an interrupted galvanic current is applied to a point on the body, there will be a minimum voltage where the muscle contracts. 
This is called the 'cathode closure contraction.' If the polarity of the electrodes is reversed, a higher voltage at the anode is required to contract the muscles.  Faradic current is a pulsed uneven alternating current.
It produces a mild prickly sensation when the stimulation is of fairly short duration. 
If the muscle reacts to a pulse of faradic current, the motor neurones are intact. When the pulses are repeated more than 20 times per second, there was no time for muscle relaxation & the contractions became tetanic. When the current is interrupted, the muscle contractions begin & end suddenly. 
The negative pole of electrical current produces muscle contractions most easily.
Sine wave current produces a marked prickling stimulation, because the stimuli are of longer duration.
The marked stimulation produces vasodilation & the skull reddens with the increased flow of blood to the tissues. The sine waves are not as comfortable as the faradic currents.
Muscle contractions increase the demand for oxygen & food. 
This dilates the capillaries.  There is an increased blood supply to the muscle.
As the muscles contract & relax they exert a pumping action on the veins & lymphatic vessels. 
The French doctor Henry Bordier was the 1st to try using electrical currents to develop the muscles...
Physical therapists used electrical stimulation to increase local blood flow.
Increased blood flow would aid athletes & it could help injuries heal & restore the area...
Before polio vaccination, thousands of people found themselves paralyzed every summer.
They often thought they were coming down with flu.
When they woke up the next day, they found they could no longer walk or use their arms.

"Eddy was an award-winning virologist, & 1 of the highest-ranking female scientists in NIH history.
She & her research partner Elizabeth Stewart were the 1st researchers to isolate the Polyomavirus, the 1st virus proven to cause cancer.  In 1954, NIH asked Eddy to direct testing of the Salk polio vaccine.
She discovered, while testing 18 macaques, that Salk’s vaccine contained residual live polio virus that was paralyzing the monkeys.
Dr. Eddy warned her NIH bosses that the vaccine was virulent, but they dismissed her concerns.
The distribution of that vaccine by Cutter Labs in California caused the worst polio outbreak in history.
Health officials infected 200,000 people with live polio.
70,000 became sick, leaving 200 children paralyzed & 10 dead. 
In 1961, Eddy discovered that a cancer-causing monkey virus, SV40, had contaminated 98 million Salk polio vaccines.  When she injected the SV40 virus into newborn hamsters, the rodents sprouted tumors.
Eddy’s discovery proved an embarrassment to many scientists working on the vaccine.  Instead of rewarding her for her visionary work, NIH officials banned her from polio research & assigned her to other duties.
The NIH buried the alarming information & continued using the vaccines. 
In the autumn of 1960, the New York Cancer Society invited Eddy to address its annual conference.
Eddy chose the subject of tumors induced by the polyoma virus.
However, she also described tumors induced by the SV40 viral agent in monkey kidney cells.
Her NIH supervisor angrily reprimanded Eddy for mentioning the discovery publicly & banned her from public health crisis statements.
Eddy argued for publication of her work on the virus, casting the contaminated vaccine supply on an urgent public health crisis.
Agency bigwigs stonewalled publication, allowing Merck & Parke-Davis to continue marketing the oncogenic vaccine to millions of American adults & children. 
On 7/26/1961, the New York Times reported that Merck & Parke-Davis were withdrawing their Salk vaccines.
The article said nothing about cancer.
The Times ran the story next to an account about overdue library fines on page 33. 
While 2 drug companies, Merck & Parke-Davis, recalled their polio vaccine in 1961, NIH officials refused to pursue a total recall of the rest of the supply, fearing reputational injury to the vaccine program if Americans learned that PHS had infected them with a cancer-producing virus.
As a result, millions of unsuspecting Americans received carcinogenic vaccines between 1961-1963.
The Public Health Service then concealed that 'secret' for 40 years. 
In total, 98 million Americans received shots potentially containing the cancer-producing virus, which is now part of the human genome.
In 1996, government researchers identified SV-40 in 23% of the blood specimens & 45% of the sperm specimens collected from healthy adults.  6% of the children born between 1980-1995 are infected.
Public health officials gave millions of people the vaccine for years after they knew it was infected.
They contaminated humanity with a monkey virus & refused to admit what they’d done. 
Today, SV-40 is used in research laboratories throughout the world because it is so reliably carcinogenic.
Researchers use it to produce a wide variety of bone & soft-tissue cancers including mesothelioma & brain tumors in animals.  These cancers have exploded in the baby boom generation, which received the Salk & Sabin polio vaccines between 1955-1963.
Skin cancers are up by 70%, lymphoma & prostate by 66%, & brain cancer by 34%.
Prior to 1950, mesothelioma was rare in humans.
Today, doctors diagnose nearly 3,000 Americans with mesotheliomas every year.
60% of the tumors that were tested contained SV-40.
Today, scientists find SV-40 in a wide range of deadly tumors, including between 33-90% of brain tumors, 8 of 8 ependymomas, & nearly 50% of the bone tumors tested. 
In successive measures, NIH forbade Bernice Eddy from speaking publicly or attending scholarly conferences, held up her papers, removed her from vaccine research altogether, & eventually destroyed her animals & took away access to her labs. The British man’s stool samples contained high levels of polio virus, levels at which infection of others could occur.
What’s more, the researchers estimated the man had been shedding live polio in his stools for as long as 28 years. 
The virus had also mutated so dramatically that it was no longer the weakened, or “attenuated”, version of the polio virus used in vaccinations. 
The man’s mutant polio infection was resolved by using blood plasma taken from people with healthy immune systems who had sufficient levels of polio antibodies in their blood."
